Moskowitz Proposes $8 Billion Bill to Fund Small Business Administration During Hurricane Season
Moskowitz served as Director for Florida’s Division of Emergency Management from 2019-21
Parkland, FL
PARKLAND, FL – Today, Congressman Jared Moskowitz (D-FL) introduced a bill to send $8 billion to the Small Business Administration (SBA) to fund Hurricane Helene and Hurricane Milton relief efforts:
“As a former emergency management director for Florida, I know that the Small Business Administration is a lifeline for so many communities after a disaster. Congress should have proactively funded the SBA and FEMA before going on a months-long recess during hurricane season. The devastation we’re seeing across the Southeast, especially in North Carolina and Florida, requires immediate congressional action. My bill to fund the SBA will help families and workers impacted by Hurricane Helene and Hurricane Milton survive until their communities recover,” Congressman Moskowitz said.
The SBA’s Disaster Loan Fund has received more than 3,000 applications every day since Hurricane Helene made landfall. Only $1.6 billion remains in the fund – which is only predicted to last a few weeks unless Congress acts.
The bill can be found here.
