Moskowitz: “House Republicans Don’t Suggest Preconditions When Paying Their Own American Express Bill. Why Are They Forcing Preconditions When Paying the Nation’s Credit Card Bill?”

WASHINGTON, DC – With Republicans in the U.S. House of Representatives continuing to hold hostage the paying of the nation’s credit card under the precondition of curtailing social support programs, Congressman Jared Moskowitz (D-Florida) issued the following statement blasting Republicans for their hypocrisy and social irresponsibility:

“The hypocrisy from House Republicans over the debt ceiling is beyond laughable. House Republicans put forward no preconditions when paying their American Express bills. The American people don’t get to dictate preconditions to Mastercard when their bill comes in the mail. You don’t have a choice when it comes to paying your bills. So why are House Republicans putting forward preconditions when paying the nation’s credit card? My Republican colleagues don’t play around with their own credit score, but they are willing to play around when it comes to the credit score of the American people?”

“I agree we should find ways to curtail spending. But both parties have spent trillions of dollars when in charge. Let’s pay our bills like responsible adults and then come together to talk in good faith about ways we can trim spending. In the meantime, we must stop holding hostage the credit of the American people for political posturing.”
