WASHINGTON, DC — Congressman Jared Moskowitz (D-FL-23) recently signed on to lead the Nancy Gardner Sewell Medicare Multi-Cancer Early Detection Screening Coverage Act, bipartisan legislation to expand Medicare to allow for coverage of multi-cancer early detection (MCED) tests. It is led in the U.S. House by Congressman Jodey Arrington (R-TX-19) and Congresswoman Terri Sewell (D-AL-07).

“As too many Florida families like my own know firsthand, cancer is a disease that doesn’t discriminate—but multi-cancer early detection tests offer an incredible opportunity to help fight it,” said Congressman Moskowitz. “These are innovative, lifesaving tools, and there’s no reason that seniors on Medicare shouldn’t have access to them if they can help catch cancer before it spreads. I’m proud to be standing with colleagues on both sides of the aisle and more than 500 organizations from around the country to push for this critical bill that will continue to advance our ongoing fight against this terrible disease.”

Under this bipartisan bill, Medicare would be able to expand to cover MCED tests once they are approved by the Food & Drug Administration. These tests are expected to dramatically increase access to screening tools while complementing the screening tools already available to Medicare recipients.

More than 500 organizations across the country support the Nancy Gardner Sewell Medicare Multi-Cancer Early Detection Screening Coverage Act. It passed out of the U.S. House Ways & Means Committee by a unanimous 38-0 vote in the 118th Congress, when it boasted 319 U.S. House cosponsors and the support of more than sixty U.S. Senators.

Moskowitz is a champion in Congress for protecting Floridians’ access to Medicare and Social Security. He is currently leading the Medicare Hearing Aid Coverage Act to expand Medicare to cover hearing aids and associated examinations for Florida seniors, and he cosponsored the Social Security Fairness Act, which became law in early January to help deliver public servants like teachers, police officers, and firefighters the full Social Security benefits they earned.
