WASHINGTON, DC — Today, Congressman Jared Moskowitz (D-FL-23), Ranking Member of the House Foreign Affairs Subcommittee on Oversight & Intelligence, released the following statement on Israel’s strikes on the Iranian nuclear program:

“For decades, the Iranian regime has openly and proudly wished death to America and death to Israel. They have threatened global stability through their search for nuclear capabilities, all while violating human rights and starting wars through their funding of terrorist groups like Hamas and Hezbollah. In the face of these existential and growing threats, Israel has the right to take decisive action to protect itself, its citizens, and its right to exist.

“Just yesterday, the International Atomic Energy Agency declared that Iran was not in compliance with nonproliferation obligations. They have consistently failed to provide required information about undeclared nuclear material and activities, a pattern of behavior that shows Iran is not being honest about their nuclear capabilities and how quickly they could produce weapons-grade uranium.

“A nuclear-armed Iran would place Israel, the United States, and partners in the region under direct and constant danger. It would undermine global stability and irrevocably harm nonproliferation efforts that are vital for regional security, and it cannot be allowed to continue down this path under any circumstances.

“As the administration tried to pursue negotiations with Iran, Iran refused to give up its nuclear program. If Iran had been serious about their desire to only enrich for civilian power purposes and not to create a nuclear weapons program, they could buy enriched uranium on the open market like many other countries do. Iran could have prevented this. They chose this path. Democratic and Republican administrations have all agreed that Iran should never obtain a nuclear weapon, and this will help that bipartisan goal.”
