Important Safety Information for Americans in the Middle East (UPDATED: 3/20)
We are continuing to monitor the situation in the Middle East to ensure you and your loved ones remain safe. I want to share the most important resources currently available for Americans traveling or residing abroad.
If you are traveling internationally, it is critical that you enroll in the State Department’s Smart Traveler Enrollment Program (STEP) to receive up-to-the-minute travel and security updates.
STEP is a free service that allows U.S. citizens and nationals traveling or living abroad to receive email alerts and messages from U.S. embassies and consulates. Enrolling also allows the nearest U.S. embassy or consulate to contact you or your emergency contact in the event of an emergency.
STEP messages will include:
- Security alerts
- Demonstration alerts
- Health alerts
- Weather or natural disaster alerts
- Travel Advisory updates
- Routine messages about U.S. embassy and consulate services
To sign up for STEP and access crisis response or evacuation information, please click here.
If you need immediate assistance, please contact the Consular Affairs Emergency Helpline:
- +1-202-501-4444 (from abroad)
