Moskowitz Tours Baltimore Port and Surrounding Area of Collapsed Francis Scott Key Bridge
Baltimore, Maryland
Baltimore, Maryland – Today, Congressman Jared Moskowitz (D-Florida) joined Maryland officials for a guided visit of the Baltimore port and the surrounding areas of the collapsed Francis Scott Key Bridge. During the guided visit, Moskowitz was given an update on the type of Federal support that is needed to help rebuild the bridge, as well as the economic impact the collapse is having on Baltimore.

“As Florida’s former Emergency Management Director, I have toured many disaster sites. I am incredibly thankful to those who have worked around the clock responding to this incident. Disaster relief can never be a politicized issue, and I am ready to head back to Washington today to ensure the federal government upholds its obligation to fully fund the reconstruction of this bridge,” said Moskowitz.
According to reports, the collapsed Francis Scott Key Bridge could take 18 months to several years to rebuild, while the cost is estimated to be $400 million. Even though local, state, and federal officials work around the clock, there is no denying the collapse will have long-term economic ramifications. In 2023, the port handled over 52.3 million tons of foreign cargo worth $80 billon.
As a former emergency management director, Moskowitz is well-versed in the lasting impacts a disaster can have on a local community for years to come. This is why Moskowitz is committed to working to help pass Federal funding to help reimburse Maryland for the cost of rebuilding the bridge and the port canal.
